"There's a possibility that gravity does not play a large role in the process of it coming back and that Doi adjusted its angle to match conditions in space. I think this will help spread the appeal of boomerangs."

Who cares if it's science, it's a beautiful use of imagination.
They don't say why. And they don't really cover the reason for the experiment with the water fleas, but there it is. Boomerangs Work in Space.
It most surely is a strange world. Strange solar system, really.
